The Fall Sale Breeds Confidence

The concluding gavel dropped, the final bid confirmed, and on the afternoon of October 30th, The Fall Sale recorded the highest average per horse sold since 2006 up 28% from the 2009 Fall Sale. A strong offering with a catalogue of 345 entrants, the October sale was just what the industry needed. Confidence in the marketplace grew as quality horses received worthy bids. By the end of the final session, The Fall Sale saw a sharp increase that left many doubters shaking their heads to the past, before turning an enthusiastic eye toward the future.

A select consignment from the famed Callaway Hills Stable, New Bloomfield, Missouri, always brings interested buyers to Lexington. Following tradition, there were no outs for the select Friday night session, and all the horses that were catalogued exchanged ownership. Daytime sessions both before and after the Callaway consignment brought interest and top dollar as well. A $5,205.00 overall average per horse sold speaks to the soundness of the marketplace. RNA's (Reserves Not Attained) remained consistent at 7%, while outs retained their hard-fought decline at 15.6%. The results from The Fall Sale were welcomed by an industry that had become cautious, but is once again finding its confidence.

Topping the sale with a $105,000.00 bid for purchase was the three-year-old Callaway's For All We Know. Burt Honaker was up for Callaway Hills Stable, and presented the five-gaited filly to an appreciative and aggressive gallery. By World's Grand Champion sire Sultan's Royalty, she is out of three-gaited winner The Supreme Machine by The Mean Machine. A responsive audience kept the bidding strong and consistent until Harold Denton, Jr., made the final nod to take the mare to Versailles, Kentucky.

Lot #217, Callaway's P.S. I Love You, was purchased by B & T Vonderschmitt LLC, Jasper, Indiana. The two-year-old chestnut gelding is by the well-known deceased World's Grand Champion sire and World's Champion CH Callawayís Blue Norther. Another of the Callaway grouping, the young horse was presented to the public with Billy Greenwell in the irons. The bid board lit on $67,000.00 before the pair retired the ring.

A consignment from Hagan Saddlebreds, Inc., Louisville, Kentucky, brought a top bid of $50,000.00. Sharon and Dana Ellington, Ripplemead, Virginia, selected HS Daydream's Believe In Me, a royally bred junior horse that is already a winner at the Kentucky State Fair and is the current Four-Year-Old Three-Gaited Sweepstakes winner. TrÈ Lee, Prospect Lane, Versailles, Kentucky, expertly put the young horse through equitation patterns, signifying a ready learner and a versatile career.

CH Five O'Clock burst through the in-gait under the direction of John Biggins, Simpsonville, Kentucky, as agent for Christopher Nalley, Louisville, Kentucky. The 2005 Five-Gaited World's Grand Champion has four additional Reserve World's Champion titles and a Reserve World's Grand Championship. This rare offering has been shown most recently in the amateur division, and should prove an exceptional mount for Dr. Geraldine S. Meanor, Glen Ridge, New Jersey. A crowd favorite, he earned a $45,000.00 ticket for purchase.

Burt Honaker was up for the Callaway Hills Stable consignment Callaway's Can't Change That. The three-year-old filly was listed as versatile, suitable for the three-gaited or fine harness division. The promising liver chestnut is by Callaway's Blue Norther and out of Hall of Fame Broodmare Callaway's Agatha Christie. Clark Clouse, Versailles, Kentucky, made the final $45,000.00 bid.   Extra Belle was a consignment from the Kathy S. Capsuto Trust, Shelbyville, Kentucky, with Escalade Stable LLC acting as agent and Shannon Hafer presenting. Shown lightly to top ribbons on the Kentucky circuit, the three-year old filly performed three gaits for the gallery. She is by the Five-Gaited Stallion World's Champion Callaway's Extra Extra, and out of World's Champion CH Dancing Up A Storm LCC by (SA) Tornaado. $40,000.00 purchased this mare for new owner Trevor Williams of Catharpin, Virginia. Emma Nichols, Laurinburg, North Carolina, was the final bidder on the two-year-old gelding by Callawayís Blue Norther and out of Simply Manilla, full sister to World's Grand Champion CH Manila Thrilla.

Another two-year-old Callaway consignment, also by Callaway's Blue Norther, was purchased by Robert and Roberta Hirshon, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Callaway's Head of Household required a $35,000.00 bid to exchange registration. Sporty and exciting, this young gelding was ridden by Burt Honaker. His first dam is Callaway's Carmel Kiss by well-known CH Caramac, making him a full brother to the successful young sire Callaway's Northern Kiss.

Christopher Nalley, Louisville, Kentucky, was a major consignor at The Fall Sale, and one of his entries bringing top dollar was the recognizable Zippers and Snaps. John Biggins, agent, expertly presented the five-gaited mare to the public before she was placed with Karyn Wonderly of Colton, California. A $33,000.00 bottom line sealed the transaction. Well shown and better received, the seven-year-old mare is by Attache's Thunderbolt, sire of World's Champions Heavenly Thunder, Joe Friday, etc. Her dam is the five-gaited winner Sabina by Longview's Paladin.

Temptress Too followed as the third top-selling Nalley consignment, with John Biggins again presenting. Another five-gaited offering, the colorful six-year-old mare was easy in the bridle and exceptional at her gaits. Another proven winner by the previously mentioned Attache's Thunderbolt, she is out of the Amateur Five-Gaited Mare World's Champion Worthy's Temptress. Temptress Too earned a $27,000.00 ticket and is now owned by Amy R. Weiler, Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Callaway's Blue Norther had no shortage of gifted offspring during Friday's evening session, and Callaway's No Reservations was no exception. The handsome three-year-old gelding has already found success in the three-gaited division. Out of Callaway's Razzberries, No Reservations is a full brother to nine-time World's Champion CH Callaway's Sugarplum. Billy Greenwell was up for Callaway Hills, as Tannehill Farms LLC, Barboursville, West Virginia, made the $23,000.00 purchase.

Deborah L. Richardson, Lenoir City, Tennessee, became the new owner of Gotta Be Charmed when she gave the final nod to the $22,000.00 bid taker. With Hollow Haven Farm as agent, Nancy Leigh Fisher, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, was both consignor and rider as she presented the five-gaited mare for public inspection. Winning the Sweepstakes as a three-year-old, she has continued to show to acclaim in both five-gaited and five-gaited pleasure classes. The six-year-old mare is by the well-known Worldís Grand Champion sire Worldís Champion Santanaís Charm and from a successful South African maternal line.

It's Saturday Night Live, Reserve World's Champion in the Three-Year-Old Five-Gaited Stallion/Gelding Stake in 2007, was consigned by the estate of Beth Arndt, Taylorsville, North Carolina. He has continued his winning ways over the past three years with blues throughout the Southeast, and recently won the Five-Gaited Championship at the Kentucky Fall Classic.       Melinda Moore, Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, was the final bidder on Milady A La Lucie. The beautiful bay mare was a consignment from Holly Wilson, Farmersville, Ohio, with TrÈ Lee, up. She has most recently been shown to top ribbons in the park division on the Kentucky circuit. This seven-year-old daughter of World's Champion and World's Champion sire CH Top Spool found her new home for $20,000.00.

Presented in hand, Callaway's Hit The Deck! was a standout consigned by Callaway Hills Stable and by the well-remembered, deceased sire CH Caramac. The two-year-old gelding is out of Callaway's Heartbreaker by Callaway's Blue Norther. Presented in hand, he was a standout in the pavilion and garnered an appreciative nod and a final bid of $20,000.00 from George Hayden, Springfield, Kentucky.

TSE/Tattersalls concluded itís 2010 sale season with an average not seen in four years. Confidence by consignors brought the buying public into the marketplace; they reciprocated with enthusiastic bids for quality bloodstock. ìWe were a little down this sale in number of entrantsî, explained TSE President, Ed Teater, ìbut we knew we had some quality, some really nice horses that we were excited to offer.î The offering paid off.
